making a move
According to CMHC, “About 85% of Canadians over 55 years old want to remain in their present home for as long as possible, even if there are changes in their health.1 Statistics Canada data shows that the majority of seniors live in private dwellings, while the remainder (8% of seniors in 2011) live in collective dwellings, which include special care facilities.2 When Canadian seniors move from family homes to condominium, co-op, life-lease and rental apartments, or retirement living communities, special care facilities and hospitals, it is often for health-related, financial and lifestyle reasons. For many elderly homeowners, these moves make day-to-day living more comfortable, safer and easier. However, the logistics of preparing, listing and selling one’s family home of many years, and moving to a new home, can be physically and emotionally overwhelming. We understand that and we can help.

seniors accreditation
John Brydon-Harris and Rod Young are licensed real estate sales representatives who are versed in the specific education necessary to help seniors and their families with later-in-life real estate transactions. Together, the accreditations they hold are: Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®), a designation of the National Association of Realtors® and the Accredited Senior Agent (ASA) designation.
JOHN BRYDON-HARRIS,
Sales Representative,
SRES®
John is a full-time practicing realtor with Real Estate Homeward and has over 20 years experience in Toronto real estate. He was born in Vancouver and spent his youth on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Vancouver, where his father served as the Anglican minister to five parishes. Many of his father’s parishioners were seniors, most of whom were retired and treated John like a grandchild, leaving him with fond memories of their kindness, especially the treats; magic hermit cookies and chocolate cakes that they baked for him.
After university, John moved to Toronto as a bit of an adventure, which eventually lead to a long career in advertising. It was in advertising that he initially met Rod Young. The two re-united when Rod became a realtor with the same brokerage and, together, they forged Seniors Home Transitions. John carries the Seniors Real Estate Specialist® designation, conferred by the National Association of Realtors®.
ROD YOUNG,
Sales Representative,
BA, ABR®, ASA, SRES®, SRS®
Rod’s goal is to help clients make sense of the abundance of real estate information that is readily available to homeowners, with a view to helping clients make informed decisions, when transitioning from home to home.
When he’s not helping clients or enjoying time with his family, Rod has helped to fundraise for Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and Royal LePage Shelter Foundation: Canada’s largest public foundation dedicated exclusively to funding women’s shelters and violence prevention and education programs.
Rod is a Queen's University graduate, with accreditations from Schulich and Ivey Business Schools. He also holds the Seniors Real Estate Specialist® designation, Accredited Buyer's Representative® and Seller Representative Specialist® designations, all conferred by the National Association of Realtors®, as well as the Accredited Senior Agent designation.
